Remember the Poll? :D Thank you so much for your comments! I was going through them yesterday and somehow managed to include everything I liked about the responses that you gave me!

So, in honour of your suggestions, here's some flavor text for this piece:

The Jade Belly-Thrower - or That Crazy-ass Kangaroo thing (as it's known in my house) - Is a very primitive creature that relies on strenght, velocity and surprise factor to subdue its prey. Sharing the ancient Darwinian plains with sighted predators, these animals evolved a visual camouflage similar to that of earthly tigers and zebras, with the eventual downfall of sighted animals, the latent photoluminiscent symbiontes on the skin of most Darwinian Animals enhanced their camouflage with counterilumination that matches the thermal glow of the Darwinian Sky, thus breaking their silhouette. both adaptations have allowed them to remain hidden in tall "grass" until viable prey came near by. When that happens, they jump in fast pursuit and ram their crescent-shaped heads on the sides of big game. Built more for speed and ramming power than resistence, an ideal hunt for these animals is a short one. Once prey is killed, the Belly-Thrower honours its name by everting it's digestive sack over its meal; crouching down in tall grass and eating quietly. During this vulnerable state, the camouflage and counter-glow again become vitally important for them.

Also of interest is the external assymetry that these animals feature; mainly in the head area; it  is believed that the different types of sensory organs in each side of the head allow the bellythrower to ping simultaneously on two different frequencies, the single stalk down it's flank acts as some sort of antennae when the creature is lying down or stalking prey... weirdly enough, there are left-handed and right-handed versions of this creature; both mirror images of each other, but otherwise identical. The process in which they develop this lopsidedness is not quite understood, a left-handed parent is equally likely to produce right-handed offspring than left-handed, but it has been observed that opposite pairs are less likely to be sneaked upon by other predators while mating, because the sensory array on both sides.

:D I had a LOT of fun painting this guy!! Stripes were not as difficult as I imagined, and since the green stuff is painted with neon colors they shine rather vividly even in the normal sunlight.

Anyway... AirborneTerror signing out!!

Just started reading Expedition. 'Alien Planet' doesn't even attempt to emulate its gloriously 80s, probably drug-induced insanity.
