Description

This is the thing I've been working on these days. It's the biggest and most detailed sculpure I have ever made, and it's a comissioned piece from the Natural History Museum of Toluca City, it will be travelling around the State.

I used a lot of different materials for this guy: First I used a wire skeleton for support and basic structure, the sleketon was hollow, so I could fit inside large styrofoam pieces in the rough shape of the head and body. I covered everything in epoxy clay and later added DAS clay for the small details, except the really delicate pieces like the antennae, palps and claws, which are covered and detailed entirely with epoxy. The Model is anatomically correct down to the finest details I could see, such as the mouthparts and stuff... proportions are a little, little bit warped, but, c'mon, give me a break, XD.

The whole thing was handpainted with acrylic paint, using this guy as main reference. and the wings were made from semi-transparent plastic, with all the wing venation carved in them, and hand-tinted with wood-colorant and silver spray paint. The eyes (Both compound and ocelli) were painted with gold to emulate the insect eye illumination effects from every angle, and because gold is awesome.

As always, I hope you enjoy, any feedback will be appreciated and welcome :D
